About the program
The Prevention & Diversion Program provides funding assistance to prevent a family from homelessness or eviction, or a security deposit to divert a family from entering shelter; case management services are provided to ensure they remain stably housed for up to one year.
A low-barrier* program that started in 2019, the Prevention & Diversion Program has assisted over 568 families, including 1218 children, as of November 2024.
The average payment per household in 2023 was $1002. For comparison, the average cost per Shelter Program family per average length of stay in 2023 was $1,659 - preventing eviction is both more cost-effective and less traumatic than shelter.
The need for eviction prevention in Rochester far exceeds the available resources in the community. FPGROC has funding to fulfill approximately 4% of the total requests received.
*Low-barrier support from FPGROC’s program means excessive documentation (including an eviction notice) is NOT required to qualify. Families who cannot be served are referred to other community resources.
